We pray for the repose of the great but humble soul of Professor Olusola Akinyele, former Dean of Science and former Deputy Vice-Chancellor. Our condolences to his widow, children, friends and associates.
On a personal note, he was a mentor to me. He was readily accessible to all and sundry in spite of the high offices he held. Sometimes during the first quarter of 1993, I went to his office as DVC at the Central Administration Building (now named after Emeritus Professor TN Tamuno, our first Alumnus VC). I humbly requested him to chair our wedding reception at All Saints' Anglican Church, Ogbonkowo, Ondo, on Saturday 17th July 1993. He gladly accepted and he was with us physically for the event; this was at a period when the entire country was in the throes of a national crisis in the aftermath of the annulment of the Presidential election the previous month.
He took time out of his busy schedule to visit me in my office anytime he was in Nigeria and I cherished this so much.
He will be sorely missed by all of us who knew him, including my wife, Eyiwumi.
